Why train in Imago Relationship Therapy?
Many therapists prefer not to work with couples because they find them so challenging. Yet after Imago training, many of these therapists find their work with couples so stimulating and rewarding, that they decide to make couples work the focus of their practice.

Imago is based on a synthesis and extension of relational insights of many established psychological theories and spiritual traditions. What makes Imago unique is that couples can benefit from all of this wisdom by practicing a series of structured dialogues. Imago training focuses on facilitating these dialogues to move each partner into a deeper connection.

For more information on the foundations of Imago in the field of psychology we recommend the following resources:

What others say about Imago clinical training.

Rob Drezner, Ph.D joined an Imago training to fulfill his CEU requirements, and with no expectations, but immediately connected. “The model just made so much sense” he recalls, “I was stunned at the beauty of the relational paradigm, moving from me working with the individual, to the individuals themselves exploring their hearts with the help and compassion of their partners. It was a safe and structured way of healing not only the relationship but each partner as well. I realized how much Imago resonated with what I had always been thinking.”

“While taking the training, I was getting surprising results in my practice. I was taken aback at the level of intimacy generated. Imago creates enormous connection for my couples, I am frequently moved to tears.”

Before training in Imago, Rob found working with couples to be difficult. Afterwards he was happy to accept referrals from other therapists who don’t work with couples.

Sabine Young, MA, Dip. Adv. Psych, recalls “It’s just not possible to get this much from a book.” When she started to apply her Imago training she found that “Each partner in the couple really began to see and hear each other, often for the very first time.”

Soon after the training, more and more couples came to Sabine for help and her reputation as a couples therapist grew. “Introducing Imago helps people to take responsibility for themselves and to learn how to be separate from one another in a very respectful way. It’s the awareness of differences that can bring such richness into people’s lives.”

Starting Imago training – Flexible Access Clinical Training (FACT)

Flexible Access Clinical Training (FACT) is an opportunity to start training in Imago without the need to make a commitment to the complete 12-day certification program. Several FACT programs are scheduled each year, with US locations often featuring Dr. Harville Hendrix.

The program includes an introduction to the Imago dialogue, and the Imago supervisory process, in addition to lectures on developmental journeys, the power struggle and conscious relationships.

At the end of the two-days, if you wish to continue to train as a Certified Imago Therapist, there are two options. You may join a second two-day training, FACT-B, which will then prepare you to join a Certification group on the fifth day of their 12-day program, called Course 200SG. Alternatively, some Clinical Instructors will allow you to join Course 200SG on the third day, after completing just FACT A.

200SG- Imago Certification Program for clinicians
The Imago Certification program provides a strong foundation for providing effective Imago therapy. The heart of the course is to practice integrating Imago dialogue into the way you work with clients, in addition to learning the theory which provides Imago’s foundation. As the program develops, the basic dialogue is extended to include training in converting frustrations into requests, exploring the impact of relationship history on the present day, and using tools to help couples achieve their relationship vision.

The program is divided into two sections.

  • Level I is a 96 hour small-group intensive program, delivered over 12 days, usually divided into 3 sections of 4 days each.
  • Level II is a 6 month period of clinical consultation to enable you to prepare a video tape of a session which meets the requirements for Certification.
